Anambra police operatives rescue pregnant 15-year-old girl during Achalla raid over alleged defilement case

AWKA — Police operatives in Anambra have arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl in Achalla.

The suspect was identified by the command as Tochukwu Nwora. He was picked up during a targeted raid by officers from the Achalla Divisional Headquarters.

The operation followed a tip-off on the activities of youths linked to crystal methamphetamine, locally called Mkpuru Mmiri, around St. Paul's Secondary School area.

The raid was carried out on the evening of June 17. Officers said they found the teenager heavily pregnant and rescued her on the spot.

Preliminary findings indicate the girl had been sexually exploited by several adult males in Nando, Nteje and Achalla. Investigators believe the men took advantage of her vulnerability, offering her small cash sums.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrest. He said the victim was immediately taken to the Police Hospital in Awka for medical examination and care.

Ikenga added that the case has drawn the direct attention of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, who has ordered a full transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The CP, who has repeatedly assured residents of firm action on child protection cases, directed detectives to widen the probe to include possible parental negligence and to ensure all suspects are prosecuted.

The command urged residents to report abuse and drug-related hideouts, stressing that the ongoing crackdown on Mkpuru Mmiri dens will continue across Awka North.
